PROFESSIONAL STAFF
Dr. Lora Phelps, DVM
Dr. Lora Phelps is a native of Upper East Tennessee and a 2002 graduate of University of Tennessee School of Veterinary Medicine. She began her professional career at the Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic May 2002 and since that time she has developed a reputation as a compassionate and professional General Practitioner. Of the various pieces of technological equipment available at the Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic, the ultrasound equipment is probably her favorite. She avails herself of many sources of continuing education in order to stay proficient in its use. She also enjoys working with exotic pets. Dr Phelps is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association, and the Tri-Cities Academy of Veterinary Medicine. She is the mother of one daughter. She and her husband and their five dogs spend enjoyable time at the area lakes. Spending time with her family and scuba diving is her favorite pastime.

VETERINARY ASSISTANT STAFF
All of the staff members at the Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic are professionally identified as veterinary assistants and have been trained in their skills by the Clinic’s professional staff. All are quite competent in their skills and their jobs and they bring a varied and interesting set of personalities and histories to the Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic. The “wash out” rate of individuals hired to those that last four months and remain as staff members is about four out of five. All of the staff are competent in the O.R., in the exam rooms, in the kennel rooms, as surgical “scrub-ins”, as front desk personnel, with the use of the laboratory equipment and tonometer, and with assisting the veterinarians with the radiological and ultrasound equipment. In accordance with the pertinent laws, the veterinary assistants do not make diagnoses and always work under the direction of a veterinarian.
SARAH HARDIN:
Sarah began working as a veterinary assistant in Nov 2003 and now works as the primary Receptionist. She and her husband welcomed their first child in 2010. They live near her father’s farm where she was reared and where she acquired practical knowledge of and experience with all of the various common farm animals. Her spare time is occupied with friends, family, and gardening.
EMILY GRAY:
Emily was also raised on a farm with exposure to and experience with all of the common farm animals. She was a practicing phlebotomist when she joined the Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic in May 2006. She and her husband live in rural Carter County with dogs, a cat, and an annoying donkey named ‘Elvis’. Friends, family, 4-wheeling, outdoors, and shopping all keep her quite busy.
CYNTHIA KYTE:
Cynthia is also a “farm girl” with her experiences tied mostly to horses. She began her work with the Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic in August 2006. She and her husband have two daughters, two canine companion pets, and two horses. She remains close to her family farm and horses. Her particular enjoyment comes from her Church, her extended family, her horses, and the rural out doors.
AMBER OXENDINE:
Amber is a lifelong Carter County resident who joined the staff of the Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic in September 2008. She enjoys the out of doors, horse back riding, and her cat and two dogs. As a child she particularly enjoyed helping her grandfather with his farm animals which included cattle, chickens, horses, and domestic pets. Outside of Carter County her favorite place is North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
